No monkeying around

This is an oil painting on my kitchen wall.  The monkey represents one of the Nazca lines.  Nazca is south of Ica in Peru and also falls victim to many tremors and some earthquakes over the years.  The famous lines in the sand, like a monkey figure, are so big that you can only see them if you are standing on a hill nearby or by airplane.

I visited Nazca years ago and was flown in a six seat airplane over the lines.  The pilot was a wonderful man who wanted us to get the full experience, so he would rotate the plane sideways every few minutes so that first, one side of the plane could see and then the other.  Needless to say I got off of that plane greener than I’d ever been, and felt nauseous for several days afterward.  🙂

But I love the painting.
